tascam 16
ok sorry if this is a dumb question.

I am used to a x2 input simple interface. I got a steal of a deal for a TASCAM 16 and hoping that I could use it in the same way so I could use it but with more inputs simultaneously..(stereo room with mono spot mics etc...) Anyways, I plugged it into my DAW but the gain levels are so incredibly low. I seem to be missing a fundamental part of how I should be using the TASCAM 16 and whether it can be used the way I am trying to use it???

I have the gain set nearly to the top and the sm81 is 3 ft from my guitar... my daw is only showing -16 to -24 dB.

and yes I've read the manual but I can't figure it out. hoping someone may be able to enlighten me

3 feet sounds unnecessary far away from your (acoustic?) guitar. Try 1 foot instead.
I’m assuming you haven’t turned on the -10dB pad in the mic.

I hope this isn't a dumb answer...
But without more info or hands-/eyes-on inspection, there's probably about a dozen places to look for the signal loss.
Basic issue: "gain staging". Learn it. Know it. Live it.:geek:
