Windows drivers hard-wired to inputs 1 and 2

Hi, newbie here, have been using my Model 24 for about a year and love it, but there is one thing about it that drives me batty.

I'm using it primarily as an audio interface for Reaper, using ASIO. I have a lot of synths and have pretty much filled the inputs. I use ch 21&22 as my main output from reaper, since I want 1&2 available for instruments. However, I also use other programs that do not use ASIO and can only output to the standard (WDM?) Windows driver (Model 24). This driver is hard-coded to use channels 1 & 2, which is a horrible design decision, as it means I lose those two inputs.

Is there any way to cajole the driver to use channels 21 & 22? I am comfortable with registry editing, etc. if that's what it takes.

ASIO drivers for Windows used to be expensive and difficult to obtain due to licensing fees.

Since October, that has changed. Expect to see open sourced drivers with more features soon.
