3-Band EQ/Model 12/Ableton

Hi,

I have seen this video:

and was wondering if the 3-Band EQ works on each channel coming from Ableton or does this gets bypassed? I could not find an anser on that question.

And if I only work with VST's and sounds in Ableton would a model 16 be overkill?
