Has anyone had any experience using the 2488s Digital ins and outs? Not sure I understand what they are used for and the manual doesn't get in to it.

David. On the 2488 Neo, the digital output carries
your output mix.

You can use it as an output to another digital device.
There is a single RCA connector for both channels.

The digital input is a route by which you can bring
two channels of digital signal into the 2488 Neo, again
on a single RCA connector.

You need to assign the inputs. You can use any
of the four input pairs. I usually use G+H.

From the “Menu” screen, select “Preferences”
then “Mixer” Go to "Digital Input", and select “G+H”

Then press the “YES/ENTER” button.
The text “Using D.In” will appear in the “Home”
window. To assign the digital inputs on G+H to
say channels 23+24. Press and hold the Input G key.
Then press the Select key for 23+24

Then press and hold the Input H key, and again press
the Select key for 23+24. Inputs will be assigned to the
stereo fader 23+24 as left and right. Lift the fader and you
will hear audio. Press the “Record” key for 23+24 and then
Play and Rec if you want to record the incoming signal.

Easy and fun:)

Thanx Iain. Very informative. Sounds like a weekend project for me to experiment with.

David. Explaining it step by step makes it seem a lot more complex than it actually is.
And once you have it hooked up and working, it is very easy to use.

IAIN,

HI, FORGIVE THE CAPS NOT YELLIN' WRIST HURTS. ANYWAY I TRIED A MONO 3.5 HEADPHONE JACK OUT OF MY COMPUTER INTO INPUT...DID NOT WORK. SO HEADPHONE JACK IS THE ONLY OUTPUT, ALL INPUT IS ALWAYS 2 FOR LEFT RIGHT RCA. SO WHERE CAN I GET THIS CONNECTION CABLE IF ALL I GOT FOR OUTPUT FROM COMPUTER IS HEADPHONE JACK INTO DIGITAL INPUT?

THANKS

MIKE

There are some computers that have an S/PDIF optical output with a standard TOSlink connection - and there are (were, more like) portable digital devices that also had an optical output and these were sometimes combined with a 3.5 mm stereo analog ouput.

I've never seen such an output on a computer - but even if there was it won't help because the connection you need is not optical but coax (the single RCA conection).

(and would it matter for your wrist if the capslock is off?)

Hi guys.Im a little late to the discussion, but I have the 2488 neo and I'm also getting ready to delve into DAW recording also.Im contemplating buying a Focusrite 8in6 audio interface and using the 2488 as a sub mixer. Can I connect the S/Pdif output to the S/Pdif input on the focusrite to keep whatever signal i output totally digital?Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!
