Retro Tascam Deal

Local Craigslist post that I would have jumped on 25 years go. Tascam MSR 16 with remote and 456 reels of half inch tape for $700. I do miss the analog sound, especially being able peak above zero VU and get a pleasant sound instead of distortion but as tempting as it is I'll stick with my DP-32 and 2400 as I remember how much maintenance was involved with the reel machines.

Anyone thinking of playing around with Ampex 456 would first do well to learn how to bake it.

I use a dehydrator long time depending on width of tape and haven't had issues years out. Sometimes after dehydration I coat with nufinish.
