Hi,
I'm trying to make use of the optical inputs on the Tascam Series 208i and am struggling to find references to what I should expect to see or how to troubleshoot issues. My 208i is connected to my Mac and works in every other respect.
I'll explain what I've tried. This maybe completely naive on my part as I don't have a great deal of knowledge on using digital input.
I have a Boss DR880 which has a digital output via coax and I am using a converter to change that to Toslink to plug into the 208i. I've tried various settings in the Tascam Settings Panel, I select the clock source from the optical input then the power light blinks indicating no signal, regardless at which sample rate I select. If I select the internal clock I don't see any input in the mixer regardless of which sample rate I select. I know the DR880 will only work at the lowest of the available sample rates. I have tried two different coax-toslink converters and have a tried a number of brand new cables for all parts.
I also have tried sending audio input from a synthesiser via an audio-toslink converter with similar results. I.E. I don't see any activity in the Tascam Settings Panel mixer and if I select the optical for the clock rate the 'no signal' light flashes.
Maybe there is something fundamentally wrong here and what I am doing will never work, however I see generally that people are using converter devices and have success.
Is there some good documentation for this anywhere (I have read the manuals for the relevant bits of kit, they are not helpful, it appears that things should just work) or is there something else I am missing?
Cheers,
Andy
