Hi, looking for any info on my problem of static noise on all 4 tracks, only on playback.
The noise even happens on playback of a brand new blank cassette.
Instead of the normal comforting tape hiss, the noise sounds like a sync tone, not unlike SMPTE.
    Anyone aware of this issue?
    Thanks!

Was the belt changed recently as one common mistake is leaving off the black ground wire to the chassis and this is motor noise. If it is something else I have never come across it.

As a matter of fact, yes! I bought it off ebay, and it was listed as newly seviced with new belt.
I will look into this. I also was thinking it sounded like motor noise leakage.
I will post what I find, Thanks!

Recently serviced mean some guy went poking around in there and does not know what he is doing and this is the result unless he has a copy of the service report from a real service station which I doubt.

Thank you so much! It was exactly as you predicted. Ground wire left disconnected from the tape drive chassis. All is working now. Thanks again!

You are welcome- it goes to show the accuracy of some of these guys that work on these and call themselves competent when their work shows otherwise.
