788 System Check FAIL!

Hello,

I just dug out my old 788 after being boxed up for almost 18 years... There were some songs on there I wanted to get out... To my dismay, when I turned it on i get a System Check Fail error.. Its super old school, version 1.02... I have not a clue how I would even begin to be able to get this thing working and/or possibly get the music off of it. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, i have also bought a 788, version 1.10, with a System Check Fail Error. Did you have any joy fixing yours?

The first thing I would check is whether it has a backup battery installed - and replace this. Usually this is a button type battery (very often CR2032).

And maybe you can find a service manual for this device, in which these types of errors are usually described - and their possibe remedy.
