Attenuator Cable for Tascam DR-40

There are attenuator cables with -35 dB and -25dB. What cable is more suitable for Tascam DR40 ?

I found an old post where a person saying that Sescom attenuator cable wasn't compatible with his Nikon D3200, so he went with the Whirlwind WHH4NL 3.5 Mon, a line to camera mic cable with headphone tap. It would be nice to know exactly was not compatible with the D3200. Maybe it was simply defective? I did not find any information about possible incompatibility of the attenuator cables with a specific camera. This incompatibility issue sounds strange.
