I'm planning on buying a DP008EX multitrack recorder, and I have a quick question concerning what is possible and what is not possible with it.

Basically, I'm planning to record a song, using drums, guitar, and vocals.

Then, I'm planning to have someone send me a music file (via email), with them playing short parts, with various instruments. They will be randomly recorder on one track.

Would it be possible for me to move them around and place them into the background of the already recorded songs?

Thanks

Update: Here's an easier question. If someone sends me a 30 second wav. file, can I download it to the stated Tascam recorder and place it in the middle of the song?

You should be able to import the file and use it in your song. It would be easier if you exported your song, have them play the parts you want timed to your song, then import them to your creation. I'm thinking in terms of getting the timing just right. With 8 tracks you have a lot of room to play with.

For Importing and moving tracks to and from your computer, See chapter 12 of the manual: You can find it on the Tascam web site. Here's a web copy.

Then, get the file settings right. See these notes about importable WAV file settings: Disregard the specifics about importing from Itunes. The specs apply to other imports as well.

Once your tracks are imported, you will likely need to edit them. See Chapter 8 of the manual.
