DR-10L Pro gives "key locked" on every key. Holding power/rec switch does nothing

Fully charged. Just installed 2.00 firmware. Holding down menu key does give time available remaining, but that's it. Otherwise Menu key is locked as are rev/forward-select keys and play/pause Enter key.

So stuck in record/pause, blinking "r". Holding rec switch for seconds does nothing, and can't even power off as sliding to power off for seconds does nothing. Can't access system restore to try that. IOS Recorder Connect software connects to unit and can change settings but doesn't actually communicate with unit in this frozen state, so settings in the app can change but transport, record etc buttons don't communicate. All of the above holds with app not open, trying to use unit alone. Did not do anything to intentionally lock anything, so after an hour I'm stumped.

Big bummer : ( Manual says nothing. Any direction here much appreciated.

I got it unstuck removing the batteries. IOS remote works,but first time trying to use it standalone, without remote, after successfully recording a few files it went back to that state. How does one avoid this? It's unclear how to set it so that this doesn't happen. Thanks.
