I think I know the answer to the question posed in the thread title - i.e. is it possible to create more time at the start of a recording? And the answer is "no."

But let me explain more clearly, just in case there is some means of doing this. Your band decides to record a song on the M12. All goes well. But then, near the end of the recording process, one member asks whether she can put some pre-recorded incidental sounds at the start of the song. I've searched the internet, and delved into the manual, but not been able to find anything yet. Thanks for any help and / or information you may post in reply to this question.

Welcome @bobbydj, the answer to your question is no. With the Model 12 track editing is done on your favorite DAW or audio editor.
