I have been reading this bit in the manual, Page 60.

Using normalize

Use the normalize function to automatically adjust the volume.

This function detects the highest volume level and raises the overall volume until the highest level reaches the maximum limit.

CAUTION

If you use equalization or compression after normalizing the track, distortion might occur.

Use the normalize function after adjusting the sound quality with equalization and compression.

So does this mean that you do a Mastering pass with EQ and Compression...then turn them off and do a second pass with Normalise

Or do you use all function simultaneously ?

Or is both ways acceptable?

Ah, showing my stupidity there..just trying it out was the was the answer.
Normalise just works on the file as a separate process.
Phil had the answer on his Video too...no surprise there!

IMO, normalizing a Mastered track is detrimental to the Mastering process. A properly Mastered track is already optimized for loudness. Altering the audio after that shouldn't be necessary.

Ok thanks
I am just trying to get to grips with the machine and how it functions at the moment, but thanks for that info

I have dropped it off to the owner again this evening. It is going to be hard going.

Believe me, that wasn't stupid. It's not very intuitive.

I have absolutely zero studio experience, I am not even musically inclined..jsut some electronics knowledge..and as such I was asked to help out teach the chap how to use it...SO before I can start I had to get to grips with it myself.

All of Phils videos, first just watched without even seeing the machine..then watched again after I had had a play with it.

I finally got it to my home, as trying to understand it with the chap over my shoulder in a poorly lit room did not help.

A few hours playing with it, with just a mic input, an external FX box and some patch leads, running signals in out via Send, back in again etc etc gave me an idea of how it all worked and a few questions. Back to Phils videos and searching here that solved a few more questions

The original manual and the phrase Chocolate teapot go well together! not sure I have found oe useful bit of info in it!

I think I can now happily use the machine and route signals around it..technically I feel I know it pretty well. Musically ...probably no hope of me ever getting that ! Give me a load of tracks and ask me to mix them to sound great and I'd not know what or how to use any of the effects, but if ahe asks how to connect/wire/ send a track through various effects..cut paste/ punch in, bounce, edit or what ever, I am now an expert :p;) ... ha ha !

Has been an enjoyable learning experience
