Is it possible to upgrade the playback speed on a cassette deck? It occurred to me that it would be quite interesting to considerably increase the playback speed on a 688. Has anyone ever done this?

No, as a lot of work has to be done in play and record EQ and this would be a mammoth process as well as cost a lot of money plus the heads are not made to wear with a higher speed. 3.75IPS is not good enough for you? Buy and open reel like a Tascam 38 then.

Well I have a TSR-8. I was just curious whether anyone had tried it and what the results would be

The results- a high amount of cost to alter all that stuff and not much benefit. The 688 runs at 3.75 IPS now so are you trying to get a cassette deck to run a 7.5IPS? There really is no reason to do it and if you were I would just say but an open reel at 15 IPS and stop fooling around with a Cassette deck.
