Using a combination of a MIDI to SMPTE adapter, a Tascam Midistudio 688 and 644 and an ATS-500, I have been able to both sync and control my tape machines and recording software to a common time base. I can also stop and rewind a slave deck from inside my DAW. Really easy to do, once you have it figured out. If this post gets interest, I will post vids and a step by step.
Ok. Will do! I have been working on something related, got distracted. I want to try to make a prototype replacement control unit for these things to let them get controlled by non-obscure hardware.
I have the ATS-500 pair and its IF-500 parallel interface. The ATS works well with the 238. To synchronize the MSR16 through the IF500 I need the "TASCAM ATS-500/IF-500 SERVICE MANUAL". (not the Owner's) you got it? Can you scan it and give me a copy? Thanks in advance!
I don't have it, but Tascam EU was VERY kind to me while Tascam US was less so. I will still post the ATS-500 video later, but this is what I have been doing that kept me distracted: I made a serial to MIDI bridge that lets you control these things without any fancy hardware and I have put the code and specs in my github @ https://github.com/bgencarelle/Tascam-MIDI-bridge
Hi bgencarelle! Are you using Ats and IF 500? Congratulations! May be you can help me .... From my daw i control my msr24 or my tsr8 with the ATS-500. (or both machines each other). I buyed an If-500 to sync paralell machines like the MS-16, but i don't have the schematic of the "ATS / IF cable" (second point in the page 35 of ATS-500 / IF-500 owner's manual) Have you the schematic or can you draw it and give me it? Thaks in advance.
