Hi, I got a MX-2424 for spare part (few Euros) and discover that +12V power supply was in CC.
CC was located on mother board (disconnect +12V and apply only +5V and power supply works fine).
I disconnected all HDD, FAN, SCSI bus
Then to locate the CC, I inject a 0.5 A current on +12V rail (lab power supply +3V max, I regulated at 0.5A) using a HDD harness. Then with milli voltmeter check the voltage on +12 at different location (where you have +12V usage) and discover the lower voltage was near FAN connector.
Bingo: the tantal CAP was in CC. I remove it an replace and the MX-2424 works fine. A new lachine to replace mine which had a boot problem...
The moral of this story: Don't throw away your equipment too quickly. It's usually repairable !!! (Need the skills
or a good friend to do the job
).
