My one gripe about these models

Some people may agree with me, some may not. But my one gripe about these 24/16/12 models is the lack of a mastering effect. I'm aware that is has a "mastering section" or something like that, that you can apply to individual tracks. But I'm talking about a final overall mastering to your mixed down stereo track. I might be simplifying it, but really that is what is preventing me from making this purchase. I'd be interested in probably a 12 if it weren't for that. I have a bunch of multitracks (including 3 Tascams: DP01-FX, 2488 Neo and DP008-EX). They ALL have mastering and I love it. They're all simple to use too, just the push of a button. I also really don't use a DAW, so maybe that's where my gripe comes from. But you should be able to do the whole thing, including mastering, on these machines. Just my two cents.

I agree 100%. It's why I'll never own one. As we describe in the sticky thread comparing the Model series and the DP-24/32/SD portastudio, TASCAM designed the Model series as front-of-house mixers with onboard recording capability for integrated use with a D.A.W., and it does that well. But it has limited editing, and no mastering capability onboard.

Now it seems people are moving away from D.A.W.s, fed up with latency, mousing, subscriptions, bloat, and an oversaturated plugin market; and looking for what the 2488 and DP-24/32/SD have always provided. And what has TASCAM done? Discontinued all the portastudios except (so far) the DP-24SD.

Couldn't agree more ... really displeased with the portastudio discontinuation, and I would NEVER, EVER pay a subscription fee for some kind of plug-in. I wouldn't care if it was $1 per year. Sick of these money-grabs that dominate the industry.
