Hi there,

I am new to recording sound and I just made my first test recordings with my DR-60D using a Audio Technica PRO 70 lavalier mic. The sound plays back ok on the DR-60D, but when I copy the wav-files to my PC (Win7, 64-bit), there is no sound.

When I import the files to Audacity, the files seem empty (i.e just a flat line).

I have tried several things such as:
- Open the files with various relevant applications
- De-associate/re-associate the files with Windows Media Player
- Tried to install a "codecs pack"
- Tried to play the files on a different PC (Win XP)
- Tried 16 and 24 bit (44.1k bit rate)

But nothing worked...

Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

You shouldn't need any additional codecs to play .wavs in Windows 7. Are you sure the file is being copied correctly?

I finally figured out what the problem was.

In the factory settings, "Gain" is set to "Low" under "Input Settings".
With this setting I got no sound when I played the file back in Windows.

Then I changed the Gain to "Mid" and suddenly everything was fine.

I am not sure whether this is symptom treatment rather than a cure, but it worked for me.

You can try some of your old recording in Audacity and amplify the volume. It may have been just too quite for you to hear it. You may get a lot of background noise in the recording tho.
