Hello! Yesterday I picked up an as-is Porta 3mkII for fifteen dollars. When I plugged it in to test, it began smoking. I opened it up and the only thing that looked amiss was the headphone potentiometer, which was blackened, so I'm assuming that was the culprit (correct me if i'm wrong?) I am having difficulty finding a replacement - it's a 20k logarithmic stereo potentiometer (photo attached). Does anyone know of a suitable replacement?

Are you sure the power adapter you tried using with this machine was compatible? If it was smoking, that makes me wonder if the polarity was incorrect.

The part I use to replace faulty headphone volume potentiometers in Porta03 machines is the Alps RK09K12C0A19. It's 10KA rather than 20KA, but works fine. If you're in the USA, I'd be glad to sell you one.

Oh! I might be interested. Send me details? Also I will check the adapters :)

Choose "repair a multitrack cassette recorder" even though you're just ordering a part. I'll follow up with ordering details. Thanks!
