DP-24SD
Hi guys - Anyone else experienced recording skipping on DP-24SD. Happened with 2 different Sandisc cards. Intermittent, fairly rare, but very annoying. Happened recording vocals to backing tracks as well as on a 22 track to 2 track bounce mix. Any help gratefully received. Thanks

What cards are you using and how much free space is there on them? I have an older 32GB SanDisk Extreme 45 MB/s (SDSDX-032G); it’s a Class 10/UHS-I (There’s a U shape with a “1” in it on the card) card which I have been using for over a year. The only problem I had was the “pop and click” problem with 24-bit recordings older DP32SDs without the 1.01 0006 update had; not a problem since I did the update a year ago.

Tascam has a list of media they have tested: http://tascam.com/content/downloads/products/837/dp-32_dp-32sd_tested_media_list_100215.pdf
Note that getting the exact same make and models as the cards they have tested can be tricky; they test cards commonly available in Japan but sometimes difficult to get elsewhere.

A 32-track recording at 24-bit 44.1khz or 48khz is under five megabytes a second of data; the SD speed class of UHS-I ensures one can write 10 megabytes a second, so pretty much any UHS-I card should be OK, but I slightly prefer using the UHS-3 (30 megs a second guaranteed, over six times the amount of data a DP32 can end up pushing to and from the card) SanDisk Extreme Pro 95 Mb/second cards, which are just over $20 each for 32 gigs (I got a pair for $40 during a recent sale over at bandh.com). More information about SD speed classes: https://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/speed_class/

Thank you Sam - I'm going to check out some Japanese-made Tascam approved cards. The skipping does feel like data buffer overrun.

Sam, Can you post a link to the exact card you bought? I just tried a Toshiba 8GB Class 10 card that was given to me as a gift, and it won't even format in the DP24SD, even though it works fine on a computer and camera. My DP24SD came with a 4GB microSD and the microSD adapter. That works fine, but I'd like a bit more space. Thanks!

Edit: Is it this card? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/824140-REG/SanDisk_SDSDXPA_032G_A75_Extreme_Pro_32_GB.html

Thanks
