Tape controls not wokring at all, tape deck not engaging Tascam Portastudio 424

Hi all

I have a tascam 424 and changed all the belts with correct replacements. The item powers on but the controls do not do anythign nor can I get the cassette deck to engage. Is there a known issue with the controls for the tape part thats common other than the belts?

The cam system need to be clean of old grease and that could be the problem. The little motor will not over come any of those old greases they used that harden up. This happens in a lot of decks and I take the time to remove that damping grease they used and put in Lubriplate 105 and then the units work like new. It is not the buttons.
