Tascam 122 Issue

Hi,
I have an old Tascam 122 MKII Tape unit. It has not been used for years, as it has a problem with Play/FF function. I can rewind a tape with no issue, but pressing play does nothing. When I press FF it makes a slight noise for about few seconds (like it wants to move) but also does nothing. Does anybody know what the issue is and can it be fixed?

Sounds like worn/old transport component issues (belts, idlers/capstans); assuming you're capable of/comfortable with servicing your own gear, you might wanna start looking there. LOTS of threads on the site here about that (reminder: there's a "search" function - top right of page).
