Tascam DM3200
I had a DB25 cable made to the Tascam standard ( here if helpful https://tascam.jp/downloads/tascam/34/DB-25_Pinout.pdf). Ive confirmed the cable was made correctly, flipping the connections so that pins 12, 24 and 25 will windup on the other end of the cable at pins 6,18 and 19 respectively. Im trying to get an extra ADAT port on my Tascam DM3200 mixer and using this cable with a Tascam IF-TAD converter ( here if helpful Tascam IF-TAD). Ive confirmed that the cables was built correctly to the "crossover" specification above (I've actually tried 3 different cables wired for this format and two other IF-TAD interfaces and on all 3 DM3200 ports).

I cannot seem to manage to get the ADAT connection to sync, input yellow lights on the IF-TAD flash, both TDIF and ADAT lights, indicating no clock/sync. The DM3200 clock page says the TDIF in "unusable". The ADAT connection is to an RME DigiFace USB ( here is helpful RME DigiFace USB) which also says "no lock".

I have tried DM3200 as master and the DigiFace as slave, and vice versa, no luck with either configuration.

If anyone could shed some light on this it would be most appreciated.

Thank you,
RB

hi, You could test the TDIF + IF-TAD converter with a loop on ADAT side.
DM must be master clock at 48K. You will receive what you send.
Cable lenght maximum 5m (no more could work in some situation but no guaranty).
I am not sure that your cable is correct (even if it could be :) )
I attach the PW88D cable schema. Could help.

Waiting your feed-back.

Thank you very much Herve, I'm not sure how to set up the loop but can try a channel insert. This is what the Tascam Console tells me about the clock info, output looks correct but the input is "unknown" if helpful.

Your wiring diagram I believe is different. Im not sure what a PW88d is but this differs from the Tascam spec I attached originally I believe ( https://tascam.jp/downloads/tascam/34/DB-25_Pinout.pdf). I will investigate that as well. I appreciate the assist !

I, I take a look at the link you refere to and it is TASCAM spec for analog and AES.
TDIF is not AES and TDIF need the PW88d cable. It exist in 1, 2, 5m long.

The wiring diagram I sent you is from TASCAM. It is correct. I propose you to build a cable following my spec and it will work.
TDIF Signal list :
1 Dout 1/2
2 Dout 3/4
3 Dout 5/6
4 Dout 7/8
5 LRCK out
6 FS0 out
19 FS1 out
18 EMPH out

10 Din 7/8
11 Din 5/6
12 Din 3/4
13 Din 1/2
8 FS0 in
9 LRCK in
20 FS1 in
21 EMPH in

GND 7, 14, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 25

As you can see it is not AES cable. TDIF use a asymétrique signal, serial audio data on 24bits, External clock and Left/right split signal. AES use 32 bit words with embeded clock CRC, and so on. It is very different and cabling are different.

Some month ago I did some reverse ingeniering on TDIF and I am 100% sure about the signal lisnt and certify that PW88d cable schema will work.

Some additional information to build a TDIF cable:

5m max Cable 3M 3750 series 13 pair 26 AWG Stranded, Twisted Pair, PVC/PVC
3M Part Number 3750/26 FArnell 2064525 (per meter)

Take care that screw lock are metric 2,6mm (This is Tascam standard). You have to order separatly because metal Sub D backshell are delivered with UNF screw. (Or you can machine the UNF to 2.6mm metric; it is not top but it works).

Well this is the best bad new Ive gotten all day ! Thank you very much Herve, This should get me on the correct path. I sincerely appreciate the detailed and thorough responses. Great information.

Take care, RB
