Transferring from DR-05X to Windows Laptop

I am totally new to recording using the above Tascam device. I am having problems transferring a WAV file to my Windows laptop using a USB connection inasmuch that I cannot see anything being downloaded and nothing appears to be consequently stored on the laptop. I have followed the instructions as per the official Owners Manual. Help!!!!!!!!!!

I have a DR-07X, which I assume is similar to the DR-05X in terms of transfer. Here's what I do to transfer files to my computer:
1. With the recorder powered off, connect it to my computer (powered on) via USB cable.
2. Turn on the recorder. It asks you to select one of three options. Select Card Reader.
3. On my computer, Windows Explorer will open up and I'll see DR-07X as a connected drive. From Windows Explorer, you should be able to view, copy, move, etc. files from the recorder to the computer.
4. When you're done press the back button on the recorder to disconnect the recorder.
5. Power off the recorder, and disconnect the USB cable.
