US 16x08 - inputs/outputs as inserts?

Hi, weird question. Got a behringer ultragain pro mic2200 recently for cheap. I want to use it to colour my stereo bounce tracks on pro tools. Apparently this is possible on mixers if you put the 2200 through the mixer's insert points. My question is, can I do this with the 16x08? I hypothesised that you could do this by using the inputs/outputs on the back of the unit and set routing appropriately in pro tools, but is there anything to be cautious about? It all makes sense to me, but I thought I should ask in the forum, in case my idea is liable to fry my interface somehow.
