Very Low activity in this forum

There doesn't seem to be very much activity in this forum. Is there a different forum which is more active regarding recording with the Tascam porta studios?

The moderators may have a better handle on the most active forums here, but from what I can tell, it seems to go in spurts for the various types of gear represented on this site. Don't know why.

I think DP-24/32/SD activity here isn't visable for a few reason, Barry:

(a) it's summer (in the northern hemisphere, anyway)​

(b) the sticky threads are doing a good job. Over the last 6 months, "Production Tips" and Phil's "Video Tutorials" have each averaged 25 and 13 daily views respectively. In the "Recording 101" forum the "Mixing" sticky has averaged 17 views daily. The other stickies in both forums have averaged about 8 views daily. So people are coming here.​

(c) It also seems lately that many new members are interested only in getting a quick fix for their "problems", and not interested in actually engaging beyond that, to the point of not even being courteous enough to say "thank you" after someone has taken time to help.​

(d) the Model series front-of-house mixers seem to have captured people who in the past would have been DP-24/32/SD users.​

(e) Artificial Intelligence (AI).​

​

(f) and lastly, are the newbies who post their questions on their profile page instead of in the proper forum, or post in the wrong forum. ​

There are others sites on the web that have areas dedicated to the TASCAM 2488 and the DP-24, 32, 24SD, and 32SD. But in those forums, in my experience, you're more likely to interact with people who don't know which end of the mic goes where, but who have no problem SWAGing.

There are folks here that have years of experience with the 2488 and/or the DP-24/32/SD, some of whom also have done/are doing audio production for a living. We're usually more than happy to share our experience and war stories in this and other forums on this site.

You and Phil are stellar sources of information. I feel like I'm the only newbie in here. LOL I'm just as interested in day to day experiences from others as I am in getting help on how to operate. I am pretty excited about having a simpler device to capture my songwriting ideas as opposed to cranking up my full blown Cubase studio which takes time. Sad that people are going AI instead of hands on. I watched a Rick Beato video on fake AI band songs and it was depressing. It's like people are in the matrix.

AI bots scrape all the forums in the world. The additional bandwidth of that traffic is paid for by the site owners. Then, AI serves up a summary of the information so users don't have to visit the sites anymore. Saved visits also means less ad revenue payout.

I am experiencing egregious damage to my own site, Behringer World, which was taken down 3 times last month due to excessive bandwidth. It went from 20 GB to 160 GB in a matter of days, all AI bots.

If this keeps up, no one will be able to afford to run a forum like this anymore.

You can post in the General Chat section all you want, if you want to find others to socialize with.

I'm not looking to chat but rather share experiences with those who are using the porta studio to record music. I can chat with my wife. LOL. I'd rather discuss instruments. mics, preamps, effects etc in regards to working with the porta studio to get a great sounding demo. I had no idea the bots were stealing content from the creators and that is unethical. Isn't there a way with Captcha to block bots? Who is the owner of this site? There ought to be a sticky for donating to the cause.

Barry, things specific to the DP-24/32/SD have for the most part ended up in the sticky section over time. More general discussions can be found in the "Song Mixes: Tracks for review and critique" forum and the "Recording 101" forum. (Example: here's a conversation mj and I had last year.)

Skimming through the stickies and those forums can often generate new questions, thoughts, etc. So if something catches your attention, jump in and continue the conversation, even if the thread isn't the most current (note: the DP-24/32/SD stickies are locked, so in that case, you'd need to start a thread in the forum instead).
