What's that little brush near the drum on a DA-38?

There's this little brush on an arm near the drum. I have a DA-38 unit with this brush missing. I think I read somewhere that this is an anti-static brush or something but I'm unsure if that's what it's called.

Is it dangerous to not have one of these on your unit? I'd like to get a replacement, but I don't think I'll find one.

As far as I remember, it's just a little cleaner that touches the head very briefly once every load/unload cycle. Dust build up can cause problems, so this helped.
The original DA-88 didn't have it. No need to worry, it doesn't affect audio at all.
