This is the recording that pushed me to finally get a good quality digital multi-track recorder. I've always loved the Crosby-Stills-Nash song "Wooden Ships" off their first album. I started recording this on my computer using WavePad/MixPad but the more tracks I added the more difficult I was finding doing any editing. So I built a basic core mix of drums and guitar with a bit of Wah-Wah. My wife gave me the Tascam as an early Christmas present and I ported the partial mix to the Tascam and finished adding more guitar parts, bass, keyboard and vocals and did final mixdown and master using the Tascam.
Here is the finished result: https://soundcloud.com/user-842688611/wooden-ships
Since this is a "Post-Apocalyptic" song, I started it off using the sound of an atomic bomb dropping and exploding followed by the sound of waves lapping against the side of a boat and seagulls. The song ends with some more waves and seagulls.
The instruments and equipment used on this recording (other than the Tascam) are:
- Rickenbacker 360/12 with JangleBox as well as Vox Wah-Wah on one track
- Guild D-50 acoustic guitar
- Cassio LK-210 keyboard
- Yamaha RX-5 Digital Rhythm Programmer
- MXL condensor mic
- ATR 30 dynamic mic
