112R mk2
I have recently acquired two 112R Mk2 decks which will soon turn 20 years old.

They have been used very little since purchase and mostly sat idle for at least the last 5/6 years.

I would like to restore the decks, one for me and one for my girlfriend. I am a long time DIYer, I repaired CD players and amplifiers but this is my first experience with cassette decks.

I already read a lot about decks maintenance and I have reason to believe these two decks just need a good cleaning and the rubber parts.

I have ordered capstan belt / pinch rollers / idler tires / VU meter bulbs and waiting for the parts to show up.

I already disassembled some of deck no. 1 and the belt job looks pretty straightforward. There was just a little dust around, the whole deck is in very good condition.

I could use hints on how to do the pinch rollers.

Speaking about idler tires, I will admit that I cannot locate them, not in the deck and not on the service manual... but several parts websites list them sooooo... where are they?

Also, I would appreciate hints about greasing/lubricating.

Thanks in advance!

I got two decks (112R MKII and 122 MKIII) from a friend of mine who works in broadcasting. The decks went obsolete years ago and would have been dumped, so I asked him to bring them along and started repairing them.

1) Gear C on both decks
Ordered them in the US and they look and fit fabulously.

2) pinch roller rubber on both decks
Got two different sizes (mine is the variant with just one pinch roller with the smaller rubber rim, however both sizes seem to fit.

3) capstan belt on the 112R MKII
The capstan belt seems to turn out being made from "unobtainium".
The first belt I ordered was 8“ (meant for the 112 without reverse I think). This belt is way too short.

Ordered a FBM9.9 which is advertised as replacement for the TEAC PN 5534810000. The length of this belt (9.9" long, 5.2mm wide) would probably be ok., but it's 0.83mm thick compared to the original belt measuring 0.48... 0.5mm. It feels like that's too much tension.
I measured the path length with a thin nylon cord to 276mm. Assuming ca. 3% (definitely less than 5%) elongation, the ideal belt would be about 268mm.
Using the FBM 9.9 would result in stretching the belt by at least 10% (considering it's relatively thick which increases the path length).
On top of this comes that it is 66% thicker, so I would end up with more than 2x strain, which will likely ruin the bearings long term.
-> The FBM9.9 would work, but it is not ideal.

Question:
Does someone in the forum know where I can get the a suitable belt for this deck?
Does someone have experience with the FBM9.9?

@darkchina811: Regarding the location of the pinch roller. It sits on the axis of the motor in the upper middle of the assembly. When you remove the sheet metal behind cassette (2 black screws in the upper corners) you find two holes for the screwdriver that allow you to take out the pinch roller subassembly (motor + movable roller). There's no need to take "everything" apart, the metal bracket the motor is mounted on stays in place.

I usually use Molycote AG633 when lubricating plastic parts and gears.

Don't use mineral oil based "normal" grease.
