Portastudio 414 MkI
Hi there, only just found this amazing community.
Wondering if anyone can help. I'm in Australia and I recently bought 414 mk I which had 2 unresponsive gain faders. I have an excellent audio repair technician looking at it for me who informed me that they are dead and will need to be replaced.
So where would one start to search for such rare replacement parts? If anyone has any suggestions of where I can start the search then I would love to hear from you.
Would love to get this baby fully operational again.
Cheers!

if you know the specs, there is a site, https:au.element14.com or (search element14) that lists over 50 different faders. I have never bought from them myself so no idea how good they are :)

Element 14 is the new name for Newark Electronics and also Farnell. If they don't have the part usually it will be very hard to find.

Thanks. I'll check it out.

One fellow was having a disconnected channel in a 4 channel fader for a M30 mixer, I told him to try conductive epoxy as it was at the end area. Some solution are not that cheap as conductive epoxy has silver in it and can conduct enough current to run a motor- most DC motor operate through this epoxy as that is what hold the brushes onto the spring they are mounted on. It should work but then he went and used a graphite glue which is not what I told him to do.

A lot depends on what the failure to the pot really is caused by.
