DM 4800
Hello.

I have a DM-4800 with fader nr 14 getting sticky and slow.

I have tried tuner 600 spray and compressed air with no luck.

The fader feels like it´s mechanical wear or damage.
All other faders work fine.

I have found a DM-3200 for parts sales.

My question is will fader board 1-8 from the DM-3200 align with the midi send and receive messages as i installed it as second fader board 9-16 in my DM-4800?

Any help would be welcome.

Thank you

I have foun

Hi Bowie,
On DM-4800, fader 1-8 and 9-16 use same board as fader 1-8 on DM-3200
PCB Fader FE8 - CI E901641-00A ( I have cheked the service manual) for me same hardware even if part list are same with G suffix for DM-4800.
for me you can swap.

The problem you have could be hardware failure on electronic side (not fader mechanic itself).
Changing the board is a good solution.

Midi message are manage by firmware and are not directly manage by the fader board. Fader send an even and this even produce others to different software module.
You can swap the board.

Never use tuner spray on faders! Caig DeoxIT, a special spay for this... DeoxiT Fader F5 and Fader grease.
Thank you, i got the info at the forum here to use tuner 600 spray.

When i take of the fader cap and lift the metal handle, move up and down, i don´t feels the same resistance anymore.
Could it be that the carbon surface factiry layer of grease is gone?

If you used Tuner spray, then probably yes

II understand that i used the wrong spray.
But before injecting the tuner 600 the fader was alleeady beharing like that, while all other faders work as new.

I also had a few buttons that i had to press hard before they react.( mute, solo, select and the layer buttons next to the master fader.

These buttons work as new now using compressed air and a little tuner 600.
I assume these contacts don´t need any grease lubrication? or do they?

Thanks again for your help.

Yes and no. First have to be free of dust. compressed air and little drops of tuner 600 or contact cleaner is fine. Some drops for sure, no oil, no grease. The best is to open, dismantle and clean.... A long job on surface.

About Fader, dust is the major problem. I change many of them and when opened for analyses, I discover dust and fibers under the brush. We can use all cleaner we want, we will never remove the materials and have always a poor contact. What also appened with electric assist Fader is related to the aging drive belt loosens and makes the fader less precise in its positioning. At a certain moment, they have to be replaced.

To protect my DM-3200 from dust I cover it with a piece of fabric cut to size and machine-stitched ( when powered off !! :) ).
