Tascam Model 12
Hi

I just got a Tascam Model 12
And I bought a good fast Sandisk SD card

But the Tascam won't accept it
What do I do?
I can't format it on the device since the message on screen stays
I tried formatting it on windows. It did format but that didn't change anything, and I'm unsure what to format it in other than exfat (?)
Damn, I thought I made sure I got the right card according to the card compability list

Hope someone can help

This is the card I have

In Windows, how much space does it say it has? If you’ve stumbled upon a counterfeit SD card it could be less than the 128gb. That could also mean there’s some other stuff wrong with it.
Are you able to copy files to the card in Windows? And read from it?

The card (128 GB) is totally normal and fine, and according to what I bought

Reading up on the issue, I think I found the cause:

On the Tascam Model 12, when having first/old firmware version you cannot use SD cards above 64 GB.
When you upgrade to latest firmware, then you can
The problem is, it requires a 64 GB or under sd card to perform the firmware upgrade itself (wtf Tascam)
So I guess I gotta find a 32 or 64 GB card, Then I can upgrade the firmware and THEN I can use my 128 GB card

Are you able to start the mixer without a SD card (can’t find this in the manual and it doesn’t state that you actually need one and haven’t tried it myself)?

I just tried this, and you are indeed able to start the mixer without a SD card in it. Obviously you won’t be able to record with the mixer. And you’re not able to update it either.
But should you have access to a smaller SD card then you would be able to update it (perhaps you could momentarily format the 128 as a 64 gb card in the computer?)

I'm pretty sure you cannot just "shrink" an SD card and then it will work
I think I have to get a 32-64 GB card and then upgrade the firmware and then my 128GB card will work
Thank you

Same issue for the Model 16/24. "Tips & Tricks" sticky thread post #7.

Obviously you cannot use a larger card for the update in order to use a larger card.
