OS Update help

Hi MX users!
I've got two MXs ,one with v3.12 and one with v1.05.

I have the 256 ram, and a 4mb 3v smart card.

My question is, can I save the 3.12 os on the smart card, and update the 2nd MX (1.05v) using just the card?
Or do I have to use ViewNet as the manual states?

Im not finding any information about my particular scenario, so thought I'd reach out and ask.

Hi, You can update directly from the SmarCard. You do not need MX-VIew.
You can write the software on the running MX with 3.12
You put the card in the other one and power-on. It will boot and load the Smart card content.

Warning: Could be possible that your MX will not see the Smart card. (dust and bad contact). In this case, power off, remove and insert the smart card 10 time. Could help....

The issue I'm seeing is, the card seems to accept the 3.12 from machine 1 fine, but I insert the card into machine 2 and boot, but it just boots normally.

I've rewritten 3.12 on the card one more time to make sure it was actually happening, and machine 1 is saying all the right things to make me believe it's copied the os , but when I try in machine 2 (v1.05) it just ignores the card and boots.

Is that the correct process, install card in slot, and boot, machine automatically begins update from card?

Or is there another trigger to make the update begin?

Hi, Yes it is the correct process to update. I did it 3 week ago. I had the same issue with direct boot even if the Smart card is inserted. This is a problem with the card reader. Due to the fact we do not use it since long long time, there is a contact problem.
Try again to insert/release the smart card Ten time or more. Disconnect and reconnect the flat rebon between card reader and mother board.
Then try again to power-up with card inserted.
What you can do if you have another Smartcard is to try to save the OS on the machine you want to update. you will get an error message if the card reader had a problem.
If the problem persist, you will have to remove the card reader and to clean the contacs with deoxid...
