Tascam Model 2400
Hi, I have bought a Samsung PROplus 256GB card for use with the newly purchased Model 2400, which is on Tascam's approved list (unless I am missing some versioning that I am not aware of - A2, v30, 4k). The unit says "Invalid card Change card" but I am also aware that the firmware needs updating (from 1.00 to 1.01), which could affect reading of the sd card. However, to update the firmware, I need to insert an sd card. I don't want to buy another card if not necessary (and potentially a wrong one again???). How best can I resolve this loop please? How do I update the firmware without being able to read the sd card?

Welcome to the community, @Major777.

I think this catch 22 issue came up once before, about a year ago. A "firmware" search on this subforum should find the thread.

EDIT
@Major777 I see you logged in again a few hours after I responded to you. Did you find the thread, and did it help solve the problem?

If not:
The approved list is dated 10/01/25 and shows both 128gb and 256gb for the Samsung Proplus. The Model 2400 was released in July 2024. It could be that the initial firmware version only supported 128gb.

Try a new search on "invalid card".

Thank you for your assistance. Yes, I have found that thread and am purchasing a 32gb card (as per the solution on the other thread for the Model 12 similar issue) to see if that gets around the firmware update requirement. I'll confirm whether that works and, if so, whether the 256gb card subsequently works. Hopefully the 32gb is not too low!

Thanks @Mark Richards The good news - the SanDisk 32gb has done its stuff and I am now updated to firmware 1.01. The not so good news, the Samsung 256gb sd card (Amazon, £27.50) still shows as invalid. Recommended SanDisk SDSDXDM-256gb (v90) - Amazon, £249.99 - really????

Edit: Okay, hoping the SanDisk Creator SD UHS-II 256gb (Amazon, £69.99) should be sufficient? The 512gb is on the Tascam list.

I would contact Tascam about the card being on the list but not working, before I would buy anything else.

@Major777 I just would like to point out a few things, if I may: Those are large, rather expensive cards. Audio takes up significant less storage space than video, for example. The DP machines have a maximum capacity of 32GB and a card that size can hold something like 8 to 12 songs, depending. I have a 512GB card in my Fujifilm cine rig and I can record 3 hours of 6.2k Open Gate raw video. If I was recording audio on that card, it would probably be 3 years!

So, what I am saying is this: you just bought the 32GB card. It works because you used it for updating the FW. Why not see how it performs and how the capacity suits your workflow. The Model series was meant to be used with a DAW so it does take pressure off of the SD card for studio settings. You may find that 32GB is good enough for the present time. Most professional workflows are based on frequent backups and then an archival backup of the entire project when finished. Each new project would begin with a clean SD card. Embracing that workflow means you don't have to store lots of projects on the SD card, along with the associated risk of losing everything because of some sort of failure.

I just hate to see people spending more money than they need to (but I am just as guilty as the next person!).

Thanks @-mjk- I had planned to do as you suggest. I do like to have fairly large storage capacities in most areas of my digital life, to ensure that everything is catered for, but your advice is sound. I also plan to follow @Mark Richards advice of contacting Tascam in relation to this issue before doing anything further financially on this.
