US 2x2 - latest software, crackles and pops regardless of buffer size

I have upgraded to the latest 2.13 0081 software and 1.01 firmware for US 2X2. Now I am getting a lot more crackles and inconsistent audio than before, and it happens regardless of which Buffer Size setting I use. I am recording with Cakewalk (version 2019.07, Build 79 64 bit) and all of my mixdown audio has crackles and pops in it.

Should I downgrade my Tascam software?

The latest software is V3.1. The V3.1 drivers fixed all the issues I was having with pops and crackles.

3,1, are you sure? That would be great news but the latest I can find for the 2x2 and 4x4 on Tascam's site is 2.13, dated February 28.

Does it happen with other daws? Cakewalk has been updated to v2019.09. It has a pretty extensive changelog. I think it mentions something about changes to the ASIO buffers and improvements to some interfaces. Let us know if you have better results if you update it.
